Abstract

Pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) is a significant public health challenge in Indonesia, particularly in Islamic boarding
schools where high interaction rates and poor environmental conditions increase the risk of transmission. This
study aimed to analyze the risk factors associated with pulmonary TB incidence at Zaa’dul Maad Islamic Boarding
School. A cross-sectional design was used, involving 112 students as respondents. Data were collected using
structured questionnaires, body mass index (BMI) measurements, and environmental assessments with a 4-in-1
environmental level meter. Bivariate analysis revealed significant associations between TB incidence and factors
such as parental education, vaccination status, room sanitation, and air humidity (p<0.05). Multivariate analysis
identified low levels of parental education, lack of vaccination, poor room sanitation, and inadequate air humidity
as major risk factors, while the implementation of school regulations was protective. A multidimensional
approach, including health education, increased vaccination coverage, improved sanitation, air humidity
management, and strengthened regulations, is recommended to reduce TB incidence in Islamic boarding schools.
